A Letter to the Future (Open in 2076)

Dear FutureMe, Date: April 6, 2026 Place: The Netherlands Hello… If you are reading this in the year 2076, 50 years have passed since I wrote these words. This is me, Yorman Rafael Álvarez Velásquez, a Venezuelan far from his homeland, but full of dreams, hope, and love for the future. At this moment, I am in the Netherlands, living a stage that is shaping my life. Near me is Amsterdam, a city that looks like it was taken from a painting: filled with canals that embrace the streets, bridges that tell stories, and old houses that lean as if they want to whisper secrets from the past. Here, bicycles move as if they were part of the city’s soul. People live with a sense of freedom that you can feel in the air, and individuals from all over the world coexist, creating something truly special. Amsterdam in 2026 is both history and future at the same time: ancient buildings reflected in the canals, while technology and modern life continue moving forward without stopping. The weather is cold, sometimes gray, with unexpected rain… but even that has its own charm. Because here I have learned that life does not stop because of the weather, nor because of difficulties. Right now, the world is changing fast. Technology keeps growing, cities are trying to become more sustainable, and humanity continues searching for a better future. And I… I am right in the middle of it all, building my path far from home, with my heart divided between where I am and where I come from. Sometimes I think about Venezuela, about my people, about everything I left behind. And at the same time, I feel that this place is part of what I am meant to become. If someone in 2076 finds this message, I want you to know something: it was all worth it. Every step, every sacrifice, every moment of uncertainty. And I wonder… Is the world better now? Does love still exist with the same intensity? Do cities still have their soul? If you are me… I hope you achieved everything I am dreaming of today. If you are someone else… take care of this world, because in the past someone believed in it. From 2026, with love, nostalgia, and hope, Yorman Rafael Álvarez Velásquez A Venezuelan who never stopped dreaming, not even while being far from home.
